Can anyone recommend me a decent blender food processor thing or should i really save for a vita-mix?
I've heard there good but are they really that much better than the rest?
Is there also a slightly cheaper option that i could use in the meantime cos i've been using a shoddy smoothie maker for a little too long |

Hi Joe,
I've been longing for a Vita-Mix for ages but just can't run to that at the moment. In the meantime, I've been really pleased with my L'Equip blender that's sold on quite a few of the raw sites for about a hundred quid. The motor's great. Have had to replace the jug/blade a couple of times after hammering it a bit too hard, but at £20 a time, it's manageable.
Have you got a food processor? I've got a pricey Cuisinart one, but use it practically every day for making dips/crackers/cookies and grating/chopping veg. I think even with a vita-mix you probably need a food processor for that type of thing.

I don't have a food processor as such, my parents do but i've not experimented enough with different recipes if i'm honest.. just about to go on a fast too so it seems a little silly right now sprouting lots of things.
Gonna go hardcore raw after though!
Can you recommend anything?
What kind of menu do you tend to have in a day (or even a week)?
At the moment i'm having a fruit breaky, some lush salad from the fields with a sauce (usually guac or just lemon and tamari) or cheese and something random for dinner |

| My amazing parents bought me a vita mix for Christmas - sooooooooo lucky! I use it every day for green smoothies , soups, sauces - everything comes out so creamy and smooth and is def worth it. The kids even use it to make smoothies - their fav at the mo is frozen summer fruits and banana. The vita mix copes well with frozen fruit - far better than my hand blender did. I'd recommend it if you can run to the cost. |

I'm another green smoothie fan. I tend to start the day with lots of warm water and lemon followed by a blenderful of fruit and greens. Add various superfoods (maca, mesquite, spirulina, purple corn) depending on my mood. Today, though, it was spinach and mint from the garden, a couple of apples and a couple of bananas. If I've been running I really up the fruit.
Another current obsession is greens and dates. I love to eat dates wrapped in spring greens or lettuce leaves. If I feel like a 'heavier' snack, I'll whip up some raw choc from cacao nibs/sesame seeds/dates. For my evening meal I'll more than likely have salad with lots of veggies and a dressing. Sometimes I'll ring the changes by having a curry with 'rice' made out of processed cauliflower.
Tell us more about the fast, Joe? I've just done 6 months of fasting for 24 hours each week. Got a lot out of that but having a break from it at the moment.
Liberty, am def going to keep manifesting that vita-mix!

hah, gonna join you in manifesting one of them too!
Can they cope with heavy duty blending?
When i was making the crumble this eve i managed to break my blender (well its not actually mine) with apple, probs shouldn't of been ramming them in so hard and my dads food processor with too much wheat and nuts... recon a Vita mix could handle it?
oh fun, i'll put stuff about the fast in the cleansing section... not much in there yet |

Am getting this on friday.. dont get a vitamix man its the armani of the raw food world.. i.e just a name..
http://www.juiceproducer.com/HPblender.php
this is basically the same as a vitamix so much so in fact that there is rumours that it might be discontinued soon because theres something to do with copyright on vitamixs machine working or something..
So its basically a vitamix for half the price without the name
Good luck dude.. I will let you know what its like when mine comes |

| That sure does seem like a vitamix. but i managed to get one a lil while ago for £240 of ebay which i was pretty happy with. I know a guy in manchester managed the same, pretty rare that they'd come up on there though. Hope yours is good. think my next purchase will have to be a tribest. Kinda finding that the vitamix is a little big for me most of the time, spesh carting it around everywhere! |
